Model Answer 1:
While some people choose to use public transportations, others prefer to use their own cars. It is believed that the excessive usage of personal cars has caused congestion problems in big cities and therefore people should use public transportations more often. However, public transportations have their own positive and negative sides and the following essay will discuss them in details.

It is undeniable, that public transportations have some weaknesses. Some people still choose to use their own private vehicles, though the government has encouraged them to use public transports. It is because public transportations are not as safe as private cars and some criminal activities on public buses or trains such as pocket thieves are still being reported. And then public transportations are not reliable in terms of preciseness and accuracy. Many people have complained about the preciseness and the consistency of these public transportations schedules, which impacted to their work or study time.

Despite its weakness points, public transportations bring a lot of benefits for individuals and societies. Firstly, it is clear that the existence of public transportations will automatically reduce traffic problems. Secondly, if the utilisation of public transportations increased, it means that there will be a reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels. Consequently, it will reduce air pollution and global warming issues. Therefore, the governments should encourage their residents to use public transportations.

In conclusion, people have different opinions about public transportations. Some people enjoy using them, while others choose to use their own personal vehicles. Although public transportations have some weaknesses, I do believe that the benefits outweighed the drawbacks. I also suggest that the government should improve the public transportation services, therefore more and more people are attracted to use public transportations.

Model Answer 2:
Transportation is playing an important role in every nation's development process and this is an important aspect of our life for mobility. Some people believe that private car is the best mean of transportation while others say that public transport service should be used for this purpose. However, as far as I am concerned, I firmly agree that public transport service should be our main mean of transportation. The advantages and demerits of using public transportation are discussed in this essay.

The very first advantage of using public transportation service is that it reduced the burning of fossil fuel. We all know that fuels like petrol and diesel take million of years to make. Therefore if we do not decrease the usage level of these fuels then in future it will be diminished. So to make sure that it will not happen in future, we need to save these fuels as much as possible. The very first step towards it is the usage of public transport service. Since a public transportation can carry a large number of passengers it reduced the overall fuel consumption. Thus it helps to reduce the air and environmental pollutions.

Secondly, more pollution will be generated if we opt to use private cars for transportation. The more personal cars on the road, the more pollution it will generate. So if we use bus or train for roaming then we can fulfil our part to decrease the environmental pollutions. Further, transportation cost is cheaper in the case of public transportation. Another aspect is the accident risk. In private cars, the probability of accident on road has increased dramatically. Last but not least, public transportation increases your social contacts. Your social life will scatter with the use of government transport service.

Every coin has two sides and that is true for the usage of public transportation as well. Firstly, public buses or trains take more time to travel to some place. It does not take any shortcuts and also runs in limited speed. On the other hand, with a private car, you can go to any place in a very short time. Secondly, public transport service is limited. One has to make sure that he/she has the timetable of public buses or trains. If one does not have timing record, then it generates some hurdles for the travellers. There is little privacy on public transportation and you can’t relax in a crammed public bus or train.

All in all, I would conclude by saying that public transport service has more advantages than its disadvantages. Further, I like to suggest that buses or trains should our main transportation types. Private cars should be used for urgent needs only. Otherwise, public transportations should be used. It will save our environment.

Free Sample IELTS Essay 5 - "Public Transport"

This is a sample IELTS essay. You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Remember, it doesn't matter if you can write an essay like this if it takes you one hour -- you need to do it in about 40 minutes.

The rising levels of congestion and air pollution found in most of the world cities can be attributed directly to the rapidly increasing number of private cars in use. In order to reverse this decline in the quality of life in cities, attempts must be made to encourage people to use their cars less and public transport more. Discuss possible ways to encourage the use of public transport.

To what extent do you agree with this statement?

You should write at least 250 words.

In a world of increasing environmental awareness improved public transport represents the way of the future. Although people do enjoy the convenience and privacy of traveling in their own private vehicles, in my opinion they may choose public transport if it fulfills certain conditions. These conditions fall into three broad categories: attitudinal, financial and logistical.

From an attitudinal perspective, people must first be convinced of the benefits of public transportation. An educational or public relations campaign must be launched to sensitize those who might have disregarded this possibility before. People should be familiarized with the environmental, social and personal benefits for present and future generations. This is one step.

From a financial perspective, public transportation must be a clear and viable benefit to consumers. In other words, it must be more affordable than driving to work every day. For example, if people know that by using bus and subway, they can save enough money to take a free holiday each year, many more individuals would be persuaded to travel in this way. This is another critical step.

From a logistical perspective, public transportation should be convenient for commuters. City planners and transport officials must ensure that frequent and reliable public transportation is available for each citizen. For people to make the habit of traveling by bus or subway, they must know that they will be able to get to various places on time. Transport vehicles must be well maintained, subway and bus drivers should be customer-oriented and service must be punctual and efficient. This is an additional important step.

In conclusion, through a multi-pronged approach, it is possible to increase the use of public transportation. City officials and politicians can lead the way by utilizing these forms of transport themselves and bringing about change through personal example. Then, more citizens will follow suit and we may all hope to live in a cleaner, less polluted environment.
